Question: Why should I take the Harmonic Workplace programs?
Answer: Great question, and easy to answer through the use of another question. Do you ever find yourself interacting with another person in the workplace? You do? Then this training will benefit you! How? By helping you to better understand other people and how they prefer to interrelate and communicate. And this leads to deeper and stronger working relationships, which leads to greater success.
Question: What's it like to participate in a classroom class?
Answer: It's really boring... you'll just sit there like a bump on a log until it ends, and will be lucky to stay awake... Not! We strive to make our classes both enlightening, and entertaining. So, it's like getting dinner and a show (with dinner being the analogous 'feast for the mind'). In a classroom session there is a lot of discussion and interaction with your table-team and the rest of the class. And there are skits where you and/or your classmates will act out parts of a mini-play. And there are activities where you work with others on fun projects that apply the learning. From a learning perspective, we strive to engage the eyes, ears and hands so we equally reach the learning needs of visual, auditory and kinesthetic learners. The courses are designed as interactive, exploratory sessions where you are both learning and applying the concepts within the session.
Question: What's it like to participate in a webinar class?
Answer: It's even more boring... Not! We especially strive to make our webinars enlightening and entertaining since it would be so easy for you to multi-task during the session (which would obviously hurt the learning process). We do our best to keep you engaged by having a constant discussion in the chat box, where you're free to share your thoughts/ideas/questions throughout the session. You'll have time to apply the learning to your current workplace situation, and will also take part in simulated activities with your classmates where the learning points are applied in lifelike situations. Oh, and we also do our best to keep things lighthearted where there will definitely be some laughter along the way. So... no, you won't find yourself napping.
Question: Why do you highlight people's challenges?
Answer: We like to see people cringe... just kidding. It's hard for most of us to admit that we have challenges that can create negativity, and it's very uncomfortable to explore it. I liken it to holding a close-up mirror to our face, where we're able to see all of the lines, scars and other imperfections that time has caused. But it's only through this close-up view that we can fully see who we are. Our Harmonic Work-Styles Model is intended to be the close-up mirror that shows all of the imperfections of how we communicate and interrelate with others. Only through this deeper view can we work to improve ourselves. In our learning programs we are very careful to keep the challenges in perspective by explaining that all of us have them (nobody is perfect), and that we can all work together to create an environment where they are lessened.
Question: Why should I get the "Harmonic Team-Building: In the Bag" product?
Answer: The Harmonic Team-Building: In the Bag kit is a revolutionary new product within the learning and development space because it has every supply and material needed for each one of the 40 team-building activities included in the bag. No more will you need to plan far ahead or scramble to gather things when you want to conduct a team-building activity. You can simply decide quickly and within 10-15 minutes be fully setup and ready to go (note: a few of the activities require a bit more setup time, and certain ones suggest sending out information to the team-members ahead of time, but most are very quick to setup).
Question: I have a virtual team, why should I get the team-building bag?
Answer: Of the 40 team-building activities listed in the book, 20 are completely applicable for use with virtual teams (some require a bit of re-purposing and setup within your webinar/collaboration platform, and others require that the remote participants do some part of the activity on their own and send the results to the meeting-leader for sharing and discussion within the live meeting session). It's then suggested that the other 20 activities are used during times when the team gets together face-to-face (which is a best-practice for virtual teams to meet in-person at least once per year, if possible).
Question: My team already gets along well, so why do we need this training?
Answer: We'll answer this with a sports analogy. The best basketball teams all have one thing in common... They keep trying to improve so they can get incrementally better. They'll never reach perfection but they try to get as close to it as possible. And that continual pursuit of perfection sets them apart from the other teams who settle for mediocrity. This is how we have perennial powerhouse teams that are consistently at the top of the rankings. Our work teams work much the same way. There's always a higher level that we can achieve. And having the team in full harmony allows the team to reach that higher level.
Question: People say I'm a good leader, so why do I need this training?
Answer: We'll answer this with another sports analogy. A golfer has a goal on every shot to place the ball in a certain spot, eventually in the hole on the green. But how often does the ball end up in exactly the precise location that the golfer intended? Not very often... because it ends up falling too short, or in the rough, or in the sand-trap. Even the pro's can't often place it exactly where they want the ball (therefore a hole-in-one is so elusive). Leadership is a lot like this... everyday we try to make the best management and leadership decisions, but we often fall short, or in the rough, or in the sand-trap. But the more that we develop our skills, the better we will be, so the training we offer will help you to be able to hit a leadership hole-in-one.
Question: How is the Harmonic Work-Styles Model used in the classes?
Answer: The Harmonic Work-Styles Model is used as the basis of understanding in all of our programs. We consider it the 'road-map' to use on your journey throughout all of the learning. And it's a map that you will continue to use in your day-to-day life as you reflect back on the learning and apply the tools and information in how to navigate within your relationships. The Model has grown out of 20+ years of observation, study, and reflection to create a tool that is simple to use, yet deeply effective.
Question: Is the Harmonic Work-Styles Model a Personality Profile?
Answer: No. The Harmonic Work-Styles Model should not be considered to be a personality assessment/profile. Personality is a deeply complex construct that requires a large amount of careful rigor to try to decipher, and there are some good tools out there to analyze it. We can offer those tools for organizations that are seeking a full-fledged personality profiling system. Instead, the Harmonic Work-Styles Model provides a view of how various types of people approach the workplace, and communicate with others while working. It’s simply providing the mirror for observable behaviors which can help you understand how others you work with are viewing you, and whether you’re coming across in a positive, Strengths-based manner, or a negative, Challenges-based manner. For those steeped in psychometric theory, our assessment/model is an ipsative, developmental assessment designed to make people aware of their communication and team interaction styles, leading to improvement.
Question: Is this Harmonic thing about Positive Thinking?
Answer: The initial answer is no. This information is not exploring what is often called "Positive Thinking" (also known as "Positive Psychology") which describes a way to focus your internal feelings on being more happy and positive. Instead, the Harmonic Philosophy uses "positive" to describe external behaviors, not internal feelings. If we interact with another through sharing more positive behaviors, it will create more a positive relationship. This will then naturally lead to more happiness in the lives of both people. So, in this respect, the ultimate answer could be a "Yes," because the end-result could internally feel much the same.
Question: Why are some of the classes offered as webinars?
Answer: This answer is very simple, and provided in two parts; First: It's so that anyone in the world can participate in a convenient way. Second: It's so we can keep the price as low as possible so it's not prohibitive. This idea of "not prohibitive" is a driving force for us here at Harmonic Learning. We price all of our programs as low as possible so more people can participate without it being a financial strain.
Question: Are the webinars really effective for learning?
Answer: We strive to make our webinars extremely engaging by utilizing live video of the facilitator and interactive activities throughout the session. The focus is always on learning, but in a fun an interesting way. Many people actually feel that a webinar is more effective than a traditional classroom setting since your focus is more on the information than the surroundings.
Question: What's the difference between the webinars and the classroom-based experience?
Answer: We strive to keep the webinars as short as possible while still providing as much pertinent information as possible within the time. Participants will be expected to explore the workbook and do some individual study after the session to round out the learning. In the classroom deliveries, the topics are explored more fully due to the expanded amount of time. But the end result is the same... a deeper understanding through increased knowledge.
